Everyone is exceptionally good, the only difference is the mental ability of the players. The ones that can withstand the stress the best are the ones that succeed. Peculiar pressures are the huge time away from the table and the minutest error having huge repercussions. There's very often no second chance. It's how they control those stresses and emotions when they're sitting in the chair that is key. Ebdon's deliberate ploy was to go out and make O'Sullivan feel that he wasn't able to succeed, even though he was playing OK. But Ronnie O'Sullivan is a perfectionist - unless he is pleasing himself, it is not good enough. It's those perfectionist tendencies that are destroying him at this moment."
"Even in victory he doesn't feel the benefit for long, which means his problems are down to something else outside of snooker. He needs to be a success as psychological recompense for his father's behaviour. It is necessary for him to be successful. He may give up because he feels he'll never be able to achieve his goals. But that's possibly only something Ronnie will ever know."

* RAY REARDON despre faimosul meci care indurereaza atitea inimioare : "The audience was bored and I was bored. It was the slowest game of snooker I have ever known. But was it a deliberate tactic by Peter? I don't know. Peter Ebdon is a very nice man. He is a very likeable man, very immaculate in what he does. I personally doubt whether Peter knew what he did. He was probably wrapped up in the game himself."
* NOSTIM ?...

Ca exemplu de exprimare eufemistica, iata:”It’s not the way I recommend playing the game. Peter’s snooker is very negative at the moment. I can’t see how he could win the World Championship playing like that and I’ll be very surprised if he goes on to win playing like that.” (Ronnie)
Barry Hearn, guru al snooker-ului si fost manager al lui Ronnie, a spus: : “We know the game is never going to be played at 100 miles per hour.” “But the players have to remember that, as well as being sportsmen, they are there to entertain. Otherwise people will get more pleasure watching Party Political Broadcasts.” “: “I want to see snooker regain the mass popularity it enjoyed in the 1980s. I want the whole country to be snooker loopy again and to be singing the song and sending me royalty cheques. But unless we can keep it entertaining then Tony Blair, Michael Howard and Charles Kennedy will seem like Westlife compared to snooker.”
Peter Dyke, consultant pe probleme de sponsorizare al Imperial Tobacco si mare suporter al sportului, a declarat cu franchete si cu pragmatismul omului de afaceri: “Ronnie is the Beckham of snooker. The game has been so much richer with him being involved. “If he carries out what he said then it’s a big loss to snooker. And the powers that be are going to find it difficult to maintain the levels of sponsorship without him. “Snooker is still a great game and can put on a good show. But you have to ask how will it get on without its main actor”
(Jurnalistul are o pozitie radicala)
THERE have been close to a maximum 147 euphemisms rolled out to describe Peter Ebdon’s shameless tactics on Wednesday night, when the former world champion recovered from 10-6 to defeat Ronnie O’Sullivan, the champion, 13-11 in the quarter-finals. The one word that has been absent is the one that crossed my mind while tuning in to that session of excruciating snooker: cheating. The facts: Ebdon’s average shot time in the final session was a coma-inducing 40 seconds. In the twentieth frame, he took 5min 30sec to compile a break of 12, ten seconds slower than O’Sullivan took to knock in a maximum 147 at the same venue in 1997. He took 3min 5sec for a single shot in the opening frame of the final session, five seconds longer than it took Tony Drago to win an entire frame in 1988.
Yet snooker referees already have the power to clamp down on slow play. The rule states: “If a referee considers that a player is taking an abnormal amount of time over a stroke or selection of strokes he shall warn the player that he is liable to have the frame awarded to his opponent.” Disgracefully, there was not a peep from Colin Brinded, the jovial referee from Great Yarmouth. There is no suggestion that Brinded was fearful of Ebdon’s position on the board of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, but there is a possible conflict of interest, which needs to be reviewed. O’Sullivan, too, must take his share of responsibility for failing to question the referee’s apparent spinelessness.
You have got to admire Ebdon’s resourcefulness, though. His water-sipping, slow-walking, head-scratching shenanigans were a masterclass in how to waste time. He had the cue-ball cleaned so often it started to shrink. He will be asking for the Crucible carpets to be cleaned between shots should he get through to the final.
